12. What is TOGAF?

What is TOGAF?

TOGAF is one of the best-known Enterprise Architecture frameworks.

It provides guidance for developing and managing enterprise architecture, including an architecture development approach, governance considerations and a range of concepts and techniques.

TOGAF is widely recognised and can provide a useful foundation for organisations establishing an EA practice.

However, organisations should avoid implementing TOGAF simply because it is well known.

A small organisation may require a much lighter approach, while a large regulated organisation may require considerably more governance and documentation.

The important question is not “Are we using TOGAF correctly?” but “Are we using architecture effectively?”
