What is Application Architecture?

Application Architecture describes the organisation’s application landscape and how applications relate to each other.

It considers the purpose of applications, their ownership, dependencies, integrations, technology platforms and lifecycle.

One of the most useful outputs is an application portfolio showing which applications are strategic, which are candidates for replacement, which are duplicated and which present significant risk.

This allows technology investment to be managed as a portfolio rather than as a collection of unrelated systems.
