How do you measure architecture maturity?

Architecture maturity describes how effectively an organisation performs architecture as a management discipline.

A low-maturity organisation may have fragmented documentation, inconsistent decisions and little governance.

A more mature organisation may have:

• Clear architecture ownership
• Established principles
• Reliable architecture information
• Effective governance
• Capability maps
• Technology standards
• Investment roadmaps
• Strong business engagement

Maturity should be viewed as a journey.

An organisation does not need a highly sophisticated EA function immediately. It should develop the capabilities that solve its most important problems first.
