How should emerging technologies be assessed from an EA perspective?
New technology should not automatically be adopted simply because it is fashionable.
EA can assess emerging technologies against criteria such as:
- Business value
- Technology maturity
- Security
- Cost
- Integration
- Skills
- Regulatory requirements
- Vendor dependency
- Strategic alignment
A technology can be highly innovative but still unsuitable for a particular organisation.
The question should always be:
What problem does this technology solve, and is it the best way to solve it?
